Avalon Progress Report 13.11.00
They're off !
(13.11.00) - Jim and Rosemary left Falmouth
at 10. 35 this morning heading South
Jim and Rosemary are intending to make it all the way to the Canary Islands in one hop, but have the option to put in to port if necessary. Although the forecast is reasonable, there is the possibility of a short period of South-Westerly winds which could slow their progress.
For those of you with a technical interest Avalon is a 36 foot cutter rigged sloop of Van der Stadt migrant design. Built in Falmouth some years ago, with a steel hull. Jim has added some equipment which will make life easier, including wind-vane steering, a GPS satellite navigation system, and a 12 disk CD player.
Future news will hopefully included maps showing the route Avalon is sailing, with detailed maps when they get somewhere interesting.
I do not think we will have any further news for two to three weeks, as it might take them that long to reach the Canaries.
Yolande is acting as contact person for Jim and Rosemary when they are out of sight of land, she can be contacted at
Alex will be acting as website technical advisor so if you find anything broken contact him at
